Japan Luggage Delivery
Traveling to Japan can be an amazing experience, but it can also be a lot of work. There's so much to see and do, and it can be hard to fit it all in. If you're traveling with heavy luggage, it can add to the stress. That's where luggage delivery comes in.
After landing in Haneda, I was staying one night at a capsule hotel in Tokyo before heading out to Hakuba. I didn’t want to be carrying my big luggage around the entire week so I opted to get my bags shipped and delivered for me to pick up at my final hotel. I landed on Tuesday, and got my bags delivered on Friday. The total was $14!! One of my other option was to store it at a coin locker for three days but that would’ve cost 700 yen per day plus the inconvenience of commuting from one location to the other with two luggage.
What is luggage delivery?
Luggage delivery is a service that allows you to ship your luggage from one location to another. This can be a great option if you're traveling to multiple cities in Japan, or if you're traveling with heavy luggage, with kids, or with elders.
How does luggage delivery work in Japan?
There are a few different companies that offer luggage delivery in Japan. The most popular company is Yamato Transport. To use luggage delivery, you bring your luggage to a Yamato counter. You will need to provide the address of your destination. Yamato will then ship your luggage to your destination, or you can pick it up at one of their offices.
Please know that they are unable to deliver to airbnbs but we found a workaround! Search for the closest Yamato office near your Airbnb and get it delivered there for pick up! Hopefully there’s one that’s walkable from your Airbnb if not, you can reverse search if there are other delivery companies nearby.
How much does luggage delivery cost in Japan?
The cost of luggage delivery in Japan varies depending on the distance between your departure and destination. However, it is generally very affordable. For example, a one-way delivery from Haneda Airport to my hotel in Tokyo costs around $14. This price includes 3-day storage because I didn’t need my big luggage until the latter half of my trip. It made maneuvering around the city with just my carry-on much faster and easier.
